Our tagline at Juniper Cannabis is “Hand-cultivated, craft quality”. For us, that means a human-focused approach. From our cultivation process to budtenders handing flower over to customers, providing a high-quality product with a craft perspective is important to us. We initiated the Local Makers Series because we genuinely value the craft, community, and quality that businesses like Buck Products, Dualitas & Treeline Coffee embody. Supporting local businesses and sustainable brands is not just a passion for us; it's a way of life and part of our business. We’re spotlighting these remarkable individuals & brands so we can foster a sense of unity, pride, and collaboration within our community around handmade products.
Today, we're shining the spotlight on Buck Products, a local brand that has mastered the art of crafting durable, handmade bags and packs. Get ready to dive into the world of Courtney and Alex, the talented duo behind Buck Products, as we explore their creative journey and their collaboration with Juniper Cannabis.
Buck Products understands that a reliable bag is more than just a functional accessory; it's a companion for your everyday adventures. Founded in 2009 by Alex Buck, a sculpture student at MSU, Buck Products was born out of a desire for a simple, no-frills bag to roll around town with. Starting with a humble home sewing machine, Alex began crafting bags that embodied durability, simplicity, and style.
What sets Buck Products apart is their commitment to quality and their relentless pursuit of excellence. Every stitch is made by Courtney, the seamstress and production manager right here in the Gallatin Valley. (Not too far from the Juniper Cannabis Belgrade Dispensary on Jackrabbit Lane!) The materials used are sourced in the USA, ensuring that each bag is not only built to last but also supports local industries.
One of the standout features of Buck Products is their customizable options. With an array of colorways that catch the eye and inspire conversation, their bags become a reflection of your unique style. From the moment you walk down the street with a Buck Products bag, you'll undoubtedly draw attention and curiosity from passersby.
We sat down with Alex Buck to gain deeper insights into his artistic journey and his hopes for the impact of Buck Products on others and the community. Alex shared, "I’ve always appreciated using local artisans in the pursuit of building Buck Products. From laser cutting to embroidery right down to every stitch and in between, it’s all done in the Gallatin Valley." His dedication to the local creative ecosystem truly shines through in his work.
When asked about his favorite thing about living in Montana, Alex emphasized the vast opportunities for enriching experiences, saying, "So much room for activities that fill my cup up. And my friends." It's this combination of space, natural beauty, and a supportive community that fuels his creativity and inspires the authenticity found in every Buck Products creation.
Alex also emphasized the importance of community support for local businesses and artists. He believes that as Bozeman continues to grow and attract talented individuals, creating spaces and events for makers to connect and collaborate is vital. By fostering these connections, we can strengthen the fabric of our community and encourage the growth of local talent.
Inspiration for Buck Products comes from a variety of sources. Alex finds solace and sparks of creativity during bike rides, people-watching while traveling (even just at the grocery store), and diving into old sketchbooks and gear. The simple act of rearranging his garage can ignite the creative juices and set new ideas into motion.
It's essential to appreciate the craftsmanship and time invested in each Buck Products bag. Alex noted, "That it takes time to build bags. They don't get pooped out of a machine by AI. Hands are involved in every step. Don't put a large order in and expect Amazon results." This reminder invites us to embrace the beauty of slow, deliberate craftsmanship and to cherish the human touch behind every product.
To connect with the community, Alex finds joy in encountering friendly faces in his favorite places, whether it's waiting in a lift line or running errands on a bike. These little moments of connection embody the spirit of Bozeman and remind us of the wonderful community we call home.
We had the privilege of collaborating with Courtney and Alex for the first feature of the season to create a limited edition collection of Customized Juniper fanny packs, dopp kits, and flat pouches. Handmade with meticulous attention to detail. Be sure to mark your calendars for Friday, June 30th, when these special creations will be available at our dispensaries in Bozeman and Belgrade.
We hope this glimpse into the world of Buck Products and our collaboration has sparked your curiosity and ignited a passion for supporting local businesses and the handmade movement. Stay tuned for the next installment of our "Local Makers Series," as we continue to celebrate the incredible talents that make Bozeman shine.
