Local Bozeman Coffee Meets Montana Cannabis
‍
Welcome back to the second installment of Juniper Cannabis’ "Local Makers'' series, where we celebrate the creative entrepreneurs and local makers who make our Bozeman community vibrant and unique. In this feature, we tell the story behind Treeline Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster in the heart of Bozeman, Montana. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Deejay Newell, the co-founder of Treeline Coffee Roasters, and Jon Beardsley, their talented head roaster, to learn more about their business, their connection to the Bozeman community, and what makes Treeline one of our favorite pick-me-ups in the Gallatin Valley.
In 2014, Deejay Newell moved to Bozeman to support her "sister" (and now business partner), Natalie, with her coffee venture. Little did she know this move would ignite her passion for the coffee industry. A transformative visit to a coffee farm in Panama in 2015 solidified Deejay's determination to make coffee her life's work.
‍
In 2016, she bought out her sister's original business partner and together Deejay and Natalie opened Treeline Coffee's flagship cafe. Jon on the other hand didn’t have to travel far to join the Treeline team. As a native of a small town in the northwest corner of the state, he cherishes the familiarity of Montana & fondly recalls growing up amidst the breathtaking landscapes, reveling in outdoor activities, and forging genuine relationships with the warm-hearted locals who embody the down-to-earth mentality that defines the region.
‍
‍
When asked about her favorite thing about living in Montana, Deejay found it difficult to choose just one. She wholeheartedly expressed her love for the sense of community that permeates every aspect of Bozeman. The accessibility to a myriad of activities, from trails to local businesses, nurtures a spirit of collaboration and inspiration. The abundance of entrepreneurs and nonprofits further fuels the infectious energy, making Bozeman a desirable and rewarding place to live.
‍
‍
Treeline Coffee has become more than just a coffee roastery. It serves as a gathering place for creators and innovators. Deejay finds joy in observing the cafe bustling with people, engaging in discussions, inspiring one another, and nurturing the creative spirit. By building this welcoming space, Treeline Coffee has provided a hub where the Bozeman community can connect, create, and grow.
‍
‍
What sets Treeline Coffee apart is their commitment to specialty coffee. Deejay explains they exclusively source and roast coffee beans of specialty grade, ensuring every cup they serve is of the highest quality. Even their most affordable coffee option surpasses the standard of many other coffees on the market. This dedication to excellence is a testament to the passion and attention to detail Treeline Coffee brings to their craft. Through their work as artists and small business owners, Treeline Coffee endeavors to make a positive impact on others and the local community. Jon believes by offering the best coffee they can find through sustainable practices, they have an opportunity to educate people about the importance of prioritizing quality over commodity. Their commitment to sourcing exceptional coffee and promoting sustainable practices serves as a testament to their desire to inspire and enlighten others.
Jon giving the beans the smell-check, and they did not dissapoint.
‍
Treeline Coffee draws inspiration from the outdoor industry, particularly those companies dedicated to climate change awareness, and sustainability, and offering exceptional products. By looking up to these environmental stewards, they aim to emulate their commitment to the environment and incorporate sustainable practices into their own business model. For this reason, we found Treeline to be the perfect partner for Juniper Cannabis. We’re constantly inspired by the outdoors and finding a deeper connection within our community through movement, sustainability, and creativity.

We’ve partnered up with the team at Treeline to come up with a coffee that is a nod to our roots, and our constant desire for adventure. Meet Honeysuckle Haze: a single-origin coffee hailing from the lush hills of Nicaragua. This coffee is a true connoisseur's delight with a unique and bright flavor profile. Like any premium strain, Honeysuckle Haze is a well-crafted blend, curated to perfection.
Its flavor profile is highlighted by sweet notes of honeysuckle giving way to the rich and creamy taste of apple butter. This coffee rounds off with a distinct baker's chocolate finish that lingers on your palate. Perfectly paired with your morning miles up Hyalite Canyon or summiting Baldy Peak.
Each cup will take you on a sensory journey, awakening your senses and expanding your palate. It's perfect for coffee lovers who seek out the highest quality single-origin coffees, and appreciate a rich and complex flavor experience. So, whether you're an experienced connoisseur or simply looking for a high-quality coffee to savor, Honeysuckle Haze is the perfect cup.
Sip slowly and let the notes of honeysuckle, apple butter, and baker's chocolate take you on an unforgettable journey of taste and aroma.

We recommend pairing this collaboration coffee with two of Juniper's favorite strains: Crater Lake, a 60/40 sativa/indica hybrid. A cross between Super Silver Haze and Huckleberry, Crater Lake smokes like a Haze without keeping you from activities or tasks. Uplifting, talkative and creative, this is an energizing strain that softens over time. Notes of herbal mint, cedar forest, and pepper spice make Crater Lake more than just a pretty flower with a good high. The top terpenes are Terpinolene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene. Learn more about how terpenes affect your cannabis experience here.
Sugar Cane delivers a focused, uplifted and seuphoric high. Platinum and Slurricane cross to create this flowery, sweet, grape-like aroma that will rush into the head before it slowly settles into the body. You'll enjoy notes of honey, vanilla and light blossom, followed by a focused & energetic mood.

While savoring a delicious cup of coffee, most people don't realize the extensive and labor-intensive journey the beans take before reaching their cups. Deejay sheds light on this often-underestimated process, from cultivation and exportation to importation, roasting, and brewing. A truly exceptional cup of coffee is the culmination of immense care, effort, and expertise. Beyond the surface of coffee, Jon shared a lesser-known fact of the trade: all coffee is fermented. This intricate process plays a crucial role in shaping the flavors and complexities that connoisseurs and enthusiasts enjoy in their daily brew.
Treeline Coffee's journey in Bozeman is a tale of passion, resilience, and community. Through their commitment to specialty coffee, creating a welcoming space for collaboration, and their dedication to navigating the challenges of running a local business, Treeline Coffee has become an integral part of the Bozeman community. Deejay Cook, Jon Beardsley, and their team have crafted a unique coffee experience that not only delights the senses but also brings people together. So, the next time you find yourself Downtown Bozeman or in the Northside District, make sure to stop by any of their Treeline Coffee Cafes and savor the fruits of their labor—crafted with love, expertise, and a genuine sense of community.
